TOM BURTON JOINS THE ACADEMY
5th February 2010
 |
Tom Burton |
Congratulations to Tom Burton who has been promoted from the WCB Emerging Players Programme (EPP) into the WCCC Academy. Tom (u17) represented the Warwickshire at under 16, 17 and 19 during the 2009 season as a top order batsman, medium pace bowler and excellent fielder. EPP Head Coach Gary Steer said that “Tom has demonstrated over the winter the attitude, skill and desire required to make the step into the academy. He has done very well to make the step up so quickly as he has been in the EPP squad for less than 12 months.”

Shozair Ali |
Congratulations to Academy Players Tim Gruijters, Tom Milnes and Shozair Ali who have all passed their Level 3 NVQ in Achieving Excellence in Sports Performance (Cricket). Over the last 12 months, all three worked very closely with NVQ Tutor Roy Wills and academy coaches Dougie Brown (presenting the certificates) and Gary Steer. To pass the award, each player had to supply evidence that they understand and are trying to improve the technical, tactical, mental and physical aspects of their game.
WARWICKSHIRE GIRLS SELECTED FOR ECB
14th January 2010
Lizzie Russell and Lucy Maxwell (both under 16) have been selected for England Women’s U17 Development Squad for a tour in March to South Africa. Lizzie is an opening bowler, whilst Lucy is an off spinner and both are middle order batsman. Both will be attending ECB training sessions in preparation for the tour which will be for around 10 days and they will play against South African provincial sides.
There was also for further good news for Amy Jones (U17) and Helen Shipman (u19) who have both been selected to attend this year's Junior Super 4s Winter Training Camp on 11th-14th February at the National Cricket Performance Centre, Loughborough. Amy is a right handed opening batsman and wicket keeper, whilst Helen also opens the innings and is an occasional leg spin bowler.
Both players are currently part of the new WCB Women’s Academy, which is a programme that runs alongside the Emerging Players Programme under the guidance of Kelly Evenson, Steve Perryman, Mark Evenson and recently retired Warwickshire player, Tony Frost. Both players are also part of the senior ladies county team, Errol Simms (team coach) endorsed the selections by saying “all players continue to work very hard on all areas of their game and their selection for the ECB Super 4’s and training camp is thoroughly deserved.”

TRIALS WINTER 2009
It’s trials season at Warwickshire!
Up to 1,000 Budding Bears have been doing their best to impress Warwickshire Cricket Board’s coaches over the last few weeks at Edgbaston and in the districts of South/Central, North & East, Solihull and Coventry.
Further trials will be taking place mostly at Edgbaston Cricket Centre throughout November to decide Warwickshire’s winter development of excellence squads for boys Under 10s,11,12,13,14,15,16,17 &19s and girls U11s,13s, 15s & 17s. Furthermore there are district squads at Under 11,13 &15s. It’s still a highly competitive process and most youngsters are not selected.
However, as ever the trials have unearthed new talented players validating what is quite a big administrative effort by the WCB. Youngsters can take local inspiration from the likes of Ateeq Javed, Richard Johnson, Chris Woakes and Paul Best who have all gone through this process in the last few years and thrived on it.
Many thanks to the clubs and schools for their time spent on sending the nominations
