The under 13 festival finally kicked off today after a washed out first two days. Bishop Veseys in Sutton were host to the 6 districts under 13 squads.

Rain had made two of the three pitches unplayable this morning but after lunch the ground were drying up and ready for games.

Fingers crossed for no more rain. Visit the Under 13 district page to see the photos!

Preparing for play!

FINALLY ...... a game of cricket

The first day of the district festivals have been washed out by waterlogged pitches from the wet bank holiday! The Under 11 festival at Warwick School and Under 13 Festival at Bishop Veseys were cancelled early this morning though are hopeful for the rest of the week whilst the Under 15 festival at King Edwards School were a little  more hopeful for play this afternoon but unfortunately was cancelled at 10am as the pitch was too wet for any play!

Players arrived disappointed about no play but were still awarded their district caps by Bears Ant Botha and Jonathan Trott.

All players have been training all winter for a chance show their skills at the District Festivals in which the Warwickshire youth squads will be chosen. The district festivals are held every day until Friday and each district will play each other. Fingers crossed for dryer weather!

Bridging the Gap Between Grass Roots Cricket &
the Development of Excellence Programme

As part of the England and Wales Cricket Board's national Strategy, District Cricket is now an integral part of the development pathway for our young cricketer's around the country. This level of cricket allows the Warwickshire Cricket Board to create more opportunities at the younger age groups and it will also assist more players to reach their full potential by playing a longer and more competitive game. It is also an excellent opportunity for players who have previously not been selected for the county squad to prove their quality by performing on a bigger stage against the best young cricketer's in the county.Prior to the district festival (whitsun week) around 400 young players attend at least eight weeks of coaching at various centres around the county and the players that are here were selected by the district coaches. At the end of the festival, county squads are selected at under 10, 11, 12, 13, 14 and 15's, and 'B' squads at under 11, 13 and 15. For those players who are not selected, there is the oppotunity for further district games during the summer holidays. For further information regarding district cricket, contact Gary Steer 0121 446 3653
